holding facades
The series Holding Facades uses close-ups of climbing frames as a visual starting point to investigate the nature of load-bearing structures, questioning the social, familial, cultural, and personal constructs we often take for granted.
The title directly references the ambiguity between a supportive foundation and a mere pretense. The work operates on the thin line between a stabilizing infrastructure and an empty shell, maintained only as a facade to feign stability. Here, the visible object emerges through the negative space—like a second skin quietly left behind. It is only through these gaps that the underlying pattern becomes visible. Ultimately, the work asks a fundamental question: do these structures provide actual support, or are they merely being held up to maintain an illusion?
