hidden horses
is part of the series Sammlung HD reformuliert, through which the cultural office supports new artistic positions and recontextualizes the municipal collection in relation to contemporary questions. Based on a selected group of works from the collection, I developed an arragement in which a subtle form of vulnerability and intimacy unfolds. My work explores the extent to which vulnerability shapes the human condition and examines the mechanisms that emerge to conceal, displace or obscure it. At it's core, the work raises the question of what happens when vulnerability becomes visible: what shifts occur, what tensions arise, and what remains.
The title Hidden Horses functions as a metaphor for what lies beneath the surface - memories, sensations, and forces that are not immediately visible, yet profoundly influence perception and action. The horse appears as a recurring motif and serves as a symbol of the present time: a time in which themes such as dicipline and conformity, rupture, proximity and distance intersect, reflecting the spectrum of human experience.
At the same time, the work opens up a space for reflecting on the relationship between humans and animals, or nature more broadly. In this context, discourses such as the animal turn point toward a shift away from a purely anthropocentric perspective, toward an expand understanding of relation, perception and coexistence.
